For music documentaries specifically, the approach has evolved significantly. The long-running VH1 series , which aired from 1997 to 2014 and now streams on Paramount+, established a template for tracing artists’ careers from beginnings to success to the resultant hardships. An entertainment industry documentary is a nonfiction film or series that examines some aspect of the entertainment business: filmmaking, television production, music recording, live performance, celebrity culture, or the commercial structures that support it all. These works range from celebratory behind-the-scenes featurettes to hard-hitting exposes of misconduct and corruption. The common thread is a focus on the people, processes, and power dynamics that shape the cultural products we consume.
